Big Sing 2006
The Tawa College Dawn Chorus and the Tawa College Twilight Tones both gained awards in this year's Regional Big Sing held in the Wellington Town Hall on Thursday 8th June. The Dawn Chorus won the award for "best representing the spirit of the festival" with both their performance and their positive behaviour. The adjudicator, Christine Argyle, had this general comment for the choir: "It's fabulous to see so many musicians on stage - you make a stunning impression! The choir is extremely well disciplined yet appears relaxed and really communicates the joy of singing with the audience. An inspiration! Bravo!"
The Twilight Tones won the award for the best presentation of a pre-19th century piece. Their singing of 'O Sing Rejoice' by J S Bach was also ably backed by Michael Pansters on the piano and Matthew Mulholland on the trumpet. About the Twilight Tones, Christine Argyle wrote: "An extremely well-disciplined choir - and you look great too! The ensemble is well-balanced and the blend of voices is very good. There was lovely singing right throughout the range, from the highest notes to the lowest notes. You presented a nicely varied programme and sang very stylishly. Bravo!"
