Fencing Results

October 2006 .

17 year old Olexander Sydor-Barnes was placed 3rd in the New Zealand and Oceanic Junior (Under-20) Men's Foil Fencing Championships. Olexander fenced very well in a strong field to achieve this result. The Men's Foil event included two members of the Australian Team who were 2006 Commonwealth Junior Foil Teams Gold Medalists.

April 2006 .

Congratulations to Olexander Sydor-Barnes, Central Region Under-17 Foil Champion 2006. In the Central Region Open Foil Championships he achieved 8th place. This competition attracts the top fencers from all Clubs in NZ, and Olexander's results are outstanding for a school-age fencer. See the photos below:


March 2006 .

Congratulations to the following fencers from Tawa College for their successes in recent competitions:

Nick Bradey, Andy Brady, Olexander Sydor-Barnes:
3rd place in the Central Region (i.e. Greater Wellington Region) Secondary School Epee Teams Competition. This was an excellent result by the team members who defeated a number of teams with far more experienced fencers.

Olexander Sydor-Barnes:
8th place in the Central Region Open Foil Championships. This competition attracts the top fencers from all Clubs in NZ. Olexander's result was outstanding for a school-age fencer.

Results for the Tawa College fencers in the Central Region Open Electric Foil Competition (in which thirty competitors took part):

Olexander Sydor-Barnes - 4th
Amy Duxfield - 4th in the Plate Event


25 July 2005

Congratulations to the following students who were selected to fence for the Wellington Regional Secondary School teams which competed in the Secondary Schools' National Fencing competition during the holidays:

Olexander Sydor-Barnes - Boys' 'A' team (placed 1st in the National Foil competition);
Amy Duxfield - Girls' 'B' team (placed 2nd in the National Foil competition);
Nick Brady was selected for the Boys' epee team but was unable to compete.

Prior to the above competition, the Wellington Invitiational Fencing Extravaganza (a major Regional Open Foil competition) was held at the end of the second term. Olexander Sydor-Barnes participated and fenced way above his standard, coming second in the competition. On his way to that placing he defeated a number of much older and more experienced competitors - an extremely good result.
