Music   

The College provides opportunity for participation in choral music through the all-comers Dawn Chorus, several auditioned choirs, and barbershop groups. Instrumental groups include the String Orchestra, guitar groups, Westpac Chamber Group and Concert Band. There is also group training in strings, woodwind, brass, percussion and voice.

    2011 NEWS:

  • 31 May 2011: At the Wellington Regional Barbershop Finals at the Wellington Town Hall on Tuesday night:
    Maiden Tawa were 1st in the Young Women in Harmony competition.
    Acafellas were 2nd in the Young Men in Harmony competition.
    Congratulations to both choirs. They continue the tradition of excellence in music at the College. .
    The National Finals are scheduled for Wellington in August.

  • April 2011: Year 12 students Tino Malo-Siolo and Nic Catto are relishing the opportunity to be part of a national choir, furthering their already-burgeoning singing talents. Click on pic below for full story.


    OLD NEWS:

  • Mid-August 2007: The Barbershop Nationals were in Christchurch this year. Tawa College students again achieved great results:
    Maiden Tawa were 1st in the Young Women's Chorus Finals - for the sixth year in a row.
    Acafellas were 3rd in Young Men's Chorus Finals - as they were last year.

  • November 2006: Isaac Stone has been highly commended for his composition in the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Choral competition.

  • Tawa College's 'Twilight Tones' gained a Silver award in Auckland at the National Big Sing at the end of August. As they have received Bronze awards in the past, this is an excellent achievement. Details of the Twilight Tones overseas success in April 2006 here.

  • The Barbershop Nationals took place in Hamilton on Monday, August 21st. A large number of Tawa College students were involved. They achieved remarkable results (bearing in mind that this is a national contest):
    Maiden Tawa - 1st in Young Women's Chorus Finals
    Acafellas - 3rd in Young Men's Chorus Finals
    Sound Waves - 1st in Young Men in Harmony Quartet Finals
