The Tawa College Boys' Hockey First XI played Hale Boys' High School from Perth, Western Australia, at the National Hockey Stadium in Wellington. The weather was cold and miserable and both teams were slow to settle. Tawa College dominated the first half but could not convert their chances. At the break the scoreline was 0-0.
In the second half Jamie Coombes scored an early goal although both teams had opportunities. At one end John Forsyth produced a fine save and then a great through ball by Blair Hilton was superbly taken by Jacques Gouws who rounded the goalkeeper and finished clinically to make it 2-0. Hale finished the stronger and richly deserved a late equaliser. The final score Tawa 2, Hale Boys 1.
Thanks to Ian Coombes for organising the game and creating ribbons by which to remember the event.
