Managing Student Behaviour Policy   


Approved by the Tawa College Board of Trustees October 2008.  Next review 2011.


Rationale

Tawa College seeks to provide a safe and secure learning environment, whether at the school and its environs, or on trips and activities away from the College. In order to promote a safe learning environment, student behaviour management procedures will be in place.

Purpose

The Board will communicate and consult with the community so that:
1.  To ensure procedures relating to managing student behaviour are developed that meet statutory and .
     regulatory obligations.
2.  To encourage self-responsibility in students and staff. .
3.  To ensure that staff are aware of these procedures and that they are applied consistently and fairly. .
4.  To ensure that procedures relating to managing student behaviour are regularly reviewed. .

Guidelines

1.  The development, implementation and review of the procedures relating to managing student behaviour are the responsibility of the Principal.

2.  The Procedures will cover the following areas:
     - Truancy.
     - Alcohol, Nicotine and other drugs
     - Student property (searching, confiscation, damage to property)
     - Student vehicles

3.  Procedures will be reviewed at least 3-yearly.

4.  The Policy Committee of the Board will request confirmation that the procedures have been reviewed.
