Concert featuring Tawa College Twilight Tones, Musical Island Boys and Vocal FX
Monday 27 March, 2006 in the Tawa College Hall .
'San Francisco Here We Come' is a concert featuring the Tawa College 'Twilight Tones' on the eve of their departure to represent New Zealand at the World Projects Choral Festival in San Francisco. The concert will take place in the Tawa College Hall at 7.30pm on the above date. The 'Twilight Tones', directed by Shona Murray, will be supported on this occasion by the Musical Island Boys who will also shortly travel to Indianapolis to compete in the Intercollegiate Barbershop competition for 2006. They are currently ranked third in the world. Their coach Charlotte Murray will also direct a youth chorus of under-25-year-old men called 'Vocal FX' who rehearse each Monday night at Tawa College in preparation for the Men's Barbershop Nationals to be held later in the year.
The 'Twilight Tones', a group of 25 young singers ranging in age from 14 to 18, is looking forward to singing their twenty-five minute programme at the International Festival in San Francisco, where they will also have the chance to meet and be tutored by 'Chanticleer', a world renowned group of twelve male singers who sing in styles ranging from Renaissance to Jazz, similar to the 'King Singers'.
To conclude their trip to the USA, the 'Twilight Tones' have also been selected to sing at Main Stage in Disneyland, Los Angeles. The group underwent a rigorous DVD audition to ensure they met with the stringent musical and presentation criteria. They are delighted to have this opportunity to put Tawa, Wellington, and New Zealand on the map at these two important musical events.
Admission to the concert on Monday night 27 March will be through door sales only. Admission costs are $10, and $5 for students and unwaged.
We hope you will support these young people and their endeavours.
Shona Murray, Director of the Tawa College 'Twilight Tones'
PS. The choir's departure date is Friday 31 March.
